The court confirms the ban on Saint-Etienne supporters from going to the match

The match of the 36th day of Ligue 1, which opposes this Wednesday evening OGC Nice against AS Saint-Etienne (ASSE) at the Allianz Riviera, will be played without Saint-Etienne supporters “ostensibly claiming to be from the club”. The administrative court of Nice has just validated the decree of the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, taken on May 9, prohibiting them from accessing the perimeter of the stadium from 4 p.m. to midnight.

ASSE supporters deprived of away matches since January

The Association for the Defense of Stéphanois supporters (AD2D) had seized the judge in chambers to order the suspension of this measure, considering that it “carried a serious attack on the freedoms to come and go, association, meeting and expression of AS Saint-Etienne supporters”. The judge then recalled, rejecting this request, that it was up to “the authorities of the State to ensure the preservation of public order and its reconciliation with fundamental freedoms. He also pointed to violent exchanges between groups of supporters of the two clubs in previous encounters.

ASSE supporters are also prohibited from parking outside until the end of the 2021-2022 season. The French Football Federation decided to sanction them after incidents in the Coupe de France against Jura Sud (National 2) in January.
