Barcelona will not do crazy things, assures Laporta: “If Mbappé wants 50 million, we could not pay”

Barcelona is still going through a serious financial crisis generated a few years ago, but the arrival of Joan Laporta has meant a relief for the institution. The new president has managed the different aspects of the entity and in a recent interview he assured that there will be no exaggerated investments in the future, citing the case of Kylian Mbappé as an example.

“If before June 30 we can activate one of the levers, or maybe two, we will have cleaned up a large part of the club’s economy. It will never happen again to enter a dimension of madness in payments”, were the first words of the boss of the ‘Culés’ in conversation with Catalunya Radio.

“It won’t happen again (large spending on transfers) and we are instilling that in the club. If Kylian Mbappé wants 50 million net, we could not pay. Then they don’t win the Champions League… And to talk about 30 net, we won’t do it either”, added Laporta in the talk.

In the same way, the president of Barcelona referred to the construction of the squad for Xavi Hernández, taking care of the financial aspect. “Our manager knows that he has good players, but we must have a more competitive team. However, I repeat, the priority is the economy”, asserted the leader.

“The situation we inherited is not fixed in a year. We still have the ability to fix it with one season and that would be extraordinary. There is a campus to aspire to everything. Even this season I thought we could win LaLiga, because I thought Real Madrid would stumble in the last stretch. We don’t push too hard; as for the Champions, it was disappointing”, stated the spokesman for the ‘Azulgranas’.

Finally, Joan Laporta did not touch the subject of Robert Lewandowski, who is linked to Barcelona. “The football management and secretary have been working. I will not answer in detail, but they seek to make the team more competitive. The first thing is to clean up the economy and then we will see if we can close the operations that we are contemplating”, stated the director.
