Sadio Mané revealed that he almost signed for Manchester United: “I had the contract there”

Liverpool will play this Saturday the Champions League final against none other than Real Madrid. The ‘Reds’ delegation flew to Paris, with the entire team, including Sadio Mané, who revealed before the match that he had the opportunity to sign for Manchester United before joining the team led by Jürgen Klopp.

“I have to say that I was very close to going to Manchester United”told the Senegalese in a dialogue with Jamie Carragher, for The Telegraph newspaper.

“I had the contract there. She had it all agreed. He was all set, but instead I thought: ‘No, I want to go to Liverpool.’ He was convinced to go with Klopp’s project. I still remember the first time I got the call from Klopp.”said Mané, before giving details of the communication with the DT.

“I was watching television. It was an action movie, because I love movies, and she told me: ‘Sadio, listen, I want to explain to you what happened in Dortmund.’ That’s when he thought about signing me for Dortmund and for some reason it didn’t work out. He tried to explain himself and I said, ‘Okay, it happened.’ I forgave him. Then he told me, ‘now I want you at Liverpool’. And I said: ‘Okay, Dortmund are behind us, let’s focus on the future’.”he recounted.

Mané also confessed that in that call he clarified to Klopp that he could also play on the right side so as not to collide with Philippe Coutinho, who at that time occupied the left side of the attack.

“He asked me what position I wanted, because he could see that at Southampton I played on the right side and I used to play on the left. I said I prefer the left, and then he said: ‘but Coutinho is on the left!’ So I said, ‘never mind, I’ll play on the right. I see myself in all positions’”he detailed.
