Australian press minimizes Peru: “It does not have the quality or reputation of Uruguay, Colombia and Chile”

A few days after playing Peru Y Australia for the playoff heading to Qatar 2022. The Australian press maintains that Peru does not have the same quality as other South American teams, in addition, they affirm that those led by Graham Arnold have a small advantage for the match on Monday, June 13.

“Peru does not have the individual quality or reputation of Uruguay, Colombia and Chile. The Peruvian national team is far from its golden generation and they only have one national in one of the major leagues in Europe: Renato Tapia from Celta de Vigo”says the Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald.

They also referred to the performance of the Peruvian teams in the Copa Libertadores. “The standard of their domestic league has plummeted. A Peruvian club hasn’t reached the second round of the Copa Libertadores in nine years as the country goes through a player development crisis, which will sound familiar to Australian fans.”

They also referred to the performance of the Peruvian team in the South American Qualifiers. “They won five playoff games in 12 months and were undefeated at home in that period. They eliminated Colombia and Chile with a much paler squad than them, at least on paper.”

Finally, they believe that the Australian team has a bit of an advantage over the team led by Ricardo Gareca. “Peru have been inconsistent and they have never traveled this far for a qualifier. In contrast, Doha has been Australia’s home away from home, we’ve played two games there due to travel restrictions. The Australian team knows the climate and has thrived there.”
