Montrezl Harrell, NBA player, faces a prison sentence for alleged drug trafficking

On May 12, in the town of Richmond, Kentucky, the local police found 3 pounds of marijuana (approx. 1.35 kg) in the car of Montrezl Harrell, player of the NBA, ESPN reported. This will take the player to a preliminary hearing to determine a sanction: he could be sentenced to five years in prison for alleged drug trafficking.

Former Charlotte Hornets center Montrezl Harrell has been embroiled in a media scandal after police found him with 1.35kg of marijuana in his car.

The 28-year-old insider is charged with trafficking drugs under 5 pounds (2.2 kilograms) and could face up to five years in prison if ultimately found guilty at trial. The preliminary hearing of the case already has a date and is scheduled for July 13, 2022.

Montrezl Harrell will become an unrestricted free agent after earning a salary of $9.7 million in the 2021-22 season, and this whole incident could cause him a lot of problems on his next contract.
