Léon Marchand skips the European Championships in August

The new French swimming star Léon Marchand, triple medalist at the Budapest Worlds, announced Sunday evening on Stage 2 that he would not participate in the next European Championships in Rome (August 11-21). Just to give yourself a little break, and start the new NCAA season properly.

“Unfortunately I will not go to the European Championships. We decided it after the World Championships, yesterday [samedi]because in fact the start of the academic year is at the same time, ”said Léon Marchand, who joined Bob Bowman, the mentor of Michael Phelps, at the University of Arizona, in the United States.

Goals met for this year

“It’s been two and a half years since I took a break. I’m going to train with Nicolas Castel in France for three to four weeks and I’m going to take a short break in the pool. And after I will come back stronger, ”continued the 20-year-old Toulousain, gold medalist in the 200 and 400m medley and silver in the 200m butterfly in Hungary.

“I think I did the job, I fulfilled my objectives for this year. I’ve been working really hard for two years, I really haven’t taken a lot of breaks and I know that in my development I need to do a good cycle, really take a break and come back fresher”, concluded Marchand, named best swimmer of the last Worlds.
