Kymberly García: Why and how to vote for the Peruvian champion in the World Athletics vote?

Kimberly Garcia is at the height of the best athletes in the world. At least in her discipline she has already proven to be the best on the planet. And, for that reason, her successes achieved this year have outlined her as a great candidate to be awarded as the “Female Athlete of the Year” by World Athletics.

First of all, it is necessary to clarify that World Athletics was previously known as the International Association of Athletics Federations. In any case, it is the governing body of this sport worldwide, so the importance of the vote is great.

In fact, for the “Female Athlete of the Year” category, only 10 athletes were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, made up of representatives from the six continental areas, and our compatriot has managed to make a mark.

That Kimberly García is the only Peruvian nominated is no coincidence. The achievements of this 2022 fully support him. In July she achieved the greatest feat of her career, when she was crowned two-time world champion in race walking: won gold in two events (20 km and 25 km) in Eugene, United States.

That is why today Kimberly competes for the special World Athletics award with other great world athletes. Tobi Amusan (Nigeria), Chase Ealey (USA), Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica), Shericka Jackson (Jamaica), Faith Kipyegon (Kenya), Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine), Sydney McLaughlin (USA), Shaunae Miller -Uibo (Bahamas) and Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela) are the other nominees.

It is of utmost importance to support our compatriot in the vote. Why? Simply, she deserves it. Having given us historical joy after almost 40 years in his sport is priceless. In addition, having achieved world glory is not easy, much less with a national sports system that has supported it very little.

How to vote?

It’s simple. First of all, it must be taken into account that this is an initial vote -carried out until Monday, October 31- in which five female finalists will be decided. Kimberly could be one of them.

But for this it is necessary to mobilize through our social networks. The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will vote via email. Alternatively, we can cast our vote online on official World Athletics accounts.

Different publications about the vote have been made on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube of this governing body. So, we must look for the publication in which the Peruvian marcher appears as the protagonist and interact with her in different ways.
