Chartres is about to lose its coach. The N2 club could see Jean-Pierre Papin join Olympique de Marseille in the coming days, according to The Team. The Marseille president Pablo Longoria would like to hire the former scorer for OM (from 1986 to 1992) and the France team as a strategic adviser. “JPP” (59 years old on November 5) would commit to three seasons.
According to the sports daily, Longoria would thus give “a Marseille touch” to a club where many Spaniards occupy major positions, from the president himself to Javier Ribalta (director of football), via Pedro Iriondo and Marco Otero, strategy and training center directors respectively.
Papin, whom OM had already approached in 2016 without following up, would have a complementary role to that of his former teammate Basile Boli, current club ambassador.
