Peruvian Award: Pedro Gallese, recognized in the MLS Save of the Year | VIDEO

He was a starter for Orlando City throughout the Major League Soccer (MLS) season and saved his team on several occasions. Of all Pedro Gallese’s interventions, the one he made in the game against Atlanta United was nominated for Save of the Year and, finally, the Peruvian won in that category.

“Orlando City SC goaltender Pedro Gallese won the 2022 MLS Save of the Year Award presented by Allstate for his amazing display during a 1-1 draw at Atlanta United on July 17”announced the American league in an article on its website.

Gallese’s action in preventing Dom Dwyer from scoring – which could have been the second for the Atlanta team in that game – was selected among the sixteen most outstanding saves of the entire season. Of course, only the interventions in the regular phase were considered and not in the playoffs, which are still at stake.

In that match, Gallese had a spectacular save, after the shot of the American attacker. The Peruvian stretched and, with his right arm, cleared the ball, when it seemed that it was going to get into the angle of his goal. “This brilliant goalkeeping performance helped the ‘Lions’ escape the Mercedes-Benz Stadium with a valuable point away from home”highlighted the MLS.

Although the Atlanta United players – including the Venezuelan Josef Martínez – only had to complain, the other side of the coin was seen in Orlando City. Gallese’s action was recognized by his teammates and, on social networks, the club praised the goalkeeper. “That’s why they call him ‘Octopus’. Gallese wins the 2022 MLS Save”was the message on Twitter.
