Simeone will not give up in search of winning the Champions League: “I’m going to keep insisting”

Atlético Madrid put together a strong squad to be the protagonist in the Champions League, but the results were not the best and the team said goodbye to the competition in the group stage, drawing 2-2 with Bayer Leverkusen. Diego Simeone, coach of the ‘Colchoneros’, lamented the severe setback, although he clarified that he will continue to seek the crown in the future.

“I have no doubt that in the Champions League it is difficult for me. It has cost me, understanding the two finals that we lost, one on penalties and the other in extra time. Closer to winning a Champions League final than penalties, I think you can’t be”began the Argentine coach at a press conference.

“I am hard-headed, very hard-headed, and I will continue to insist, as long as I have the chance at this club, entering the Champions League first and looking to find something that we are missing (the title). It is a difficult, hard, unexpected moment, not within the project that we always have in the institution”added the ‘Cholo’.

In the same way, Simeone recalled the time he was also eliminated in the group stage, curiously the same season in which he was proclaimed champion of the Europa League (2017-18). “It is the second time in ten years that we have been left out of the round of 16 and it was not within what we expected, but it is our present”he highlighted.

“Reality tells us that last season it was very difficult for us to get into the round of 16. Although we deserved much more than we got in all the games we played, this is the real thing (elimination). There are two places to put in life: in victimhood or in continuing to work. I am on the side of continuing to work”said the DT.

Finally, Diego Simeone supported Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, who missed a penalty in the last minute, which could mean the victory of Atlético Madrid: “He took the ball because he was confident and unfortunately it went wrong. With the game he was doing, he took responsibility and it is very valuable on my part ”.
