Caminos del Inca: the mechanics that give life to the competition and its daily demands

Both are on their second Caminos del Inca. Deisi Villcas and Didmary Henríquez work every day so that the cars are in the race and so far they have met their objective. Deysi with Miguel Álvarez’s van and Didmary with Fernanda Kanno’s are fulfilling their own objective.

“This Caminos del Inca has been very long, and the fact that you only have one stage left makes you very happy. In addition, I am happy to have the opportunity with Miguel, and to finish it is exciting”, says Deisi, whom we met in Caminos del Inca 2019 and we meet again between keys and burnt oil.

Now we also met Didmary, who works with Fernanda Kanno’s team. “It is my second Caminos. I have been working for three years and I have learned a lot in this, more from my brother who is the team leader”, she tells us.

But Didmary not only works with ‘Dora, the explorer’, Fernanda and Alonso’s truck, but has also worked on the preparation of a drift car from scratch.

Being in Caminos is tiring for everyone who is part of this automotive caravan, but it is the mechanics who carry the weight of the competition because they have to get the cars ready for each day of the race.

“When they crash or break something, we have to fix it… I had an experience with a Honda that overheated and melted. We had to change engine and worked all night. Because our goal is for them to finish without problems”Deisi tells us.

“The demand is great, because it is the basis of everything, that is why it is motivating when the car arrives. You know you’re doing things right.”Didmary tells us.

For this reason, this Tuesday they will head to Cusco in the last stage and hope to be on the final podium celebrating with the whole team. “If I live it, I cry.
