With his “reconditioned” boat, Romain Pilliard is aiming for an honorable performance

Postponed due to unfavorable weather, the start of the Route du Rhum 2022 should – finally! – be given this Wednesday, November 9 at 2:15 p.m. Competing in this 12th edition of the famous solo transatlantic sailing race, Romain Pilliard will set off aboard the trimaran Use it again, “the former boat of the English navigator Ellen MacArthur, who won the round the world record in 2005, specifies the Parisian skipper. We have decided to give this super ship a second life”.

“When everything works, I am overproduced”

Whether Use It Again twenty years old, Romain Pilliard has equipped it with recent… and ecological technologies: “I have three means of producing green electricity: solar panels, wind turbines and hydrogenerators. When everything works at the same time, it’s absolutely brilliant because I am in overproduction,” he enthuses.

By his own admission, the navigator does not intend to reach Guadeloupe from Saint-Malo with the aim of winning: “first place has an ecological cost that is too high, he underlines. Because when you want the fastest boat, equipped with the latest technology, you consume a lot of resources. Personally, I want to show that you can sail on an ‘old’ boat alongside others, bigger and more efficient”.
