Messi confirmed a discussion with Luis Enrique in Barcelona: “It lasted a while”

Barcelona has had several coaches in recent years and one of the most successful has been Luis Enrique, who was in charge of the club between 2014 and 2017. The stage of the Spanish coach is well remembered by the ‘Azulgranas’ and especially by Lionel Messi, who revealed that there was a great relationship, although that did not prevent a discussion.

La ‘Pulga’ recalled the period of the Spanish strategist at the Camp Nou, during an interview with Jorge Valdano, who hosts a program on Movistar Plus, and gave details of the small crisis that occurred at the beginning of 2015.

“I was coming back from Argentina, after the holidays, and we played on January 2 or 3. Well, that day I ended up going to the bank and we had an argument, which lasted for a while.”recounted Lionel Messi, with a smile on his face, referring to the match that Barcelona lost, on a visit, to Real Sociedad (1-0), by LaLiga.

That time, the Argentine striker was a substitute along with other club figures, such as Neymar, Dani Alves, Gerard Piqué, Ivan Rakitic or Marc-André ter Stegen. However, ‘Leo’ was active: he played the entire second half, but he couldn’t do much to prevent his team’s defeat.

Despite Lionel’s annoyance at the time, the campaign ended brilliantly on a collective level: Barcelona was champion of LaLiga Santander and the Champions League. And on an individual level, Messi ended up winning the 2015 Ballon d’Or, after two years in second place.

In the same way, the ‘Flea’ confessed that he would have wanted the coach to continue for longer. “With Luis Enrique I had a spectacular relationship until the last day. When he decided to leave, we told him to stay, not to leave, that we were fine ”concluded the footballer in the small extract from the interview.
