Robert Lewandowski will miss three LaLiga Santander games with Barcelona after the end of the World Cup. This Wednesday, the Competition Committee issued the sanction against the striker, who was sent off against Osasuna during the last match before the break for Qatar 2022. Likewise, the body confirmed the punishment for Gerard Piqué, although it will not be effective because the center-back has already he retired from soccer.
In relation to the Pole, the entity argued that the Barca footballer receives a date for the red card, after a double yellow. Two games are added for “having addressed the referee with contempt or inconsideration”. To support it, article 124 of the Federation Disciplinary Code was used.
In this sense, the institution dismissed the appeal presented by the Catalans. According to the culés, the first cardboard that ‘Lewy’ saw must be considered as a “material error” to impede the advance of an adversary. The second because they state that Robert showed “disagreement” with the work of the judge. Thus, Barcelona is ready for a new defense.
What happened to Lewandowski and the referee?
The ‘9’ made a few gestures when he was sent off at El Sadar. In this regard, the referee Gil Manzano provided details in the match report. “The player twice made a gesture of disapproval of the referee’s decision, consisting of putting his finger to his nose, and then pointing his thumb towards the referee”says part of the report.
In turn, Lewandowski clarified that the gesture was directed at Xavi Hernández and not at the authority in the clash that took place in Pamplona. In the waiting room, the coach warned his players about avoiding cards, explained the scorer.

What games will Lewandowski miss with Barcelona?
After the World Cup, Barcelona resumes activity against Espanyol at the Camp Nou on December 30 or 31. That will be the first duel without Robert. Right away, on January 7 or 8, Lewandowski will be the great absentee at Atlético de Madrid’s home. Nor on January 12 against Getafe. Of course, the sanction does not compromise the gunner with a view to the Super Cup.
And the punishment of Piqué?
Piqué received four sanction dates, but he will not meet them because he has already closed his chapter in football. In any case, the disciplinary body revealed that the former defender had insulted the referee such as “It’s a p.. shame, I fell.. in your p.. mother” either “You are the referee who has screwed us the most”.
