Gianluca Lapadula’s goalscoring records have grown as the season progressed and this Sunday he once again displayed his efficiency. The 32-year-old forward did not fail from the penalty spot and declared Cagliari’s 2-2 draw against Frosinone, visiting, for matchday 14 of Serie B in Italy.

Referee Michael Fabbri had added five minutes of replacement at the Benito Stirpe Stadium and, with less than 60 seconds left, the ‘Bambino’ was fouled inside the area: defender Luca Mazzitelli hit him in the face when they were getting ready to the aerial dispute of the ball.

The scene was clearly observed by the judge of the match, who did not hesitate to sanction the maximum penalty and admonish the offender with a yellow card. Immediately, Lapadula seized the ball, settled it on the designated spot and fired, violently, towards the left post of goalkeeper Stefano Turati. The ball inflated the nets and parity was declared.

A few moments later, Gianluca was the protagonist again: he took a cross, which was slightly deflected, and Leonardo Pavoletti scored to make it 3-2 in favor of Cagliari. The celebrations for the agonizing victory were euphoric, but the VAR detected an offside and the action was annulled.

In this way, the ‘Reds and Blues’ add 18 points and remain in box 11, three units from the playoff zone for promotion to Serie A. For his part, Lapadula scored in the last four games for his club , which curiously ended in draws, and has recorded five goals throughout the season in the Italian second division.
