Didier Deschamps on Benjamin Pavard after France-Tunisia: ‘He’s not in a good mood’

Didier Deschamps “made the decision not to play” Benjamin Pavard, the holder in the first leg and a substitute in the second, because the defender was “not in a good mood,” the coach said after a 1-0 loss to Tunisia at the end of the first round of the World Cup.

The France boss switched centre-back Axel Disasi to right-back instead of resuscitating Pavard, whom he replaced with Jules Kunde in the second leg against Denmark (2-1) after he survived a “very difficult” match against Australia ( 4-1) at the beginning of the tournament.

“I made the decision not to play with him. I had several exchanges with him, I believe that he is not in good condition, not in a good mood, ”Deschamps justified himself at a press conference after the defeat from Tunisia.

“You will tell me: “Is it physical, is it the head? “Obviously, the first match did not help him. So I made a different choice,” continued the coach of the reigning world champions.

In Qatar, Deschamps took on a group that did not include frustrated right-backs. He did choose Kunde and Pavard, who at Barcelona and Bayern respectively play on the defensive axis.
