Lewandowski’s criticism of his coach’s defensive posture in the World Cup: “There is no joy”

The Polish team did not have a football improvement, compared to what was shown in the group stage, and was eliminated in the round of 16 of Qatar 2022, after losing 3-1 against France. Robert Lewandowski, captain of the team, regretted the defeat, although he was also very critical of the style of play they exhibited and even questioned their participation in the 2026 World Cup.

The 34-year-old player, who continues to reap impressive goalscoring figures at the club level, did not have an outstanding intervention in this World Cup and his activity was marked by the penalty he missed in the debut match, which ended with a 0-0 draw against Mexico.

However, regardless of that ruling, the Polish representative was characterized by being cautious throughout the tournament: coach Czeslaw Michniewicz prioritized his strategy in taking care of his goal and then thinking about the attack. In this sense, when the elimination was consummated, Lewandowski did not hesitate to question this style.

“Joy is needed in the game. It is important for the future. When we play defense, there is not that joy. It’s different when we try to attack.”‘Lewy’ confessed at a press conference after the loss against France.

In the same way, Robert questioned his participation for the 2026 World Cup (organized in Mexico, Canada and the United States), in case a similar soccer trend continues. “There are factors that can influence my decision”assured the striker, who closed Qatar 2022 with two goals.

Finally, Lewandowski made a collective analysis of the clash against France. “He is a very difficult opponent and we should be proud of our performance. In the first half we created problems for them and although we didn’t win, we gave our best”concluded the captain of the Polish national team.
