FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Argentina and the Netherlands after their match for the Qatar 2022 World Cup

A vibrant game, but with many frictions within it. Argentina defeated the Netherlands in the Lusail stadium for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and inside – as outside – the game different conflicts were generated. For this reason, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee opened a procedure before the Argentine Association (AFA) and the Netherlands Football Federation (KNVB) for “improper conduct by players and officials”.

In addition, the AFA is also exposed to possible infringements of “article 16 (order and security of matches)”, according to FIFA added in the statement published this Saturday on its official website.

During the development of the match, there were clashes between the players of both teams, in addition to various protests to the referee of the clash, Antonio Mateu Lahoz, apart from statements against the referee’s actions by the players of both teams at the end of the match.

“The referee has extended 10 minutes, he wanted us to tie. He is the worst referee by far. Since Spain has been left out of the quarterfinals, he also wanted us to be left out ”, said, for example, the Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.

Lionel Messi also complained about the Spanish referee. Both at the end of the match and later in the locker room. But the ex of Barcelona was not so forceful: “You cannot put a referee who is not up to the importance of the game. We were scared before the game because we knew what this referee was.”

Various incidents also took place during the match, such as Paredes hitting the Netherlands bench with a pitch or the final celebration of the Albiceleste team where Paredes himself and Otamendi mocked the UEFA team players.
