Rooney praises Messi and recalls a message from more than a decade ago: “Nothing has changed”

The Argentina team won the 2021 Copa América and began to raise its football level, led by Lionel Messi. And last Tuesday, the “Flea” led his national team to a new World Cup final, which he will seek to win, after his failed attempt in Brazil 2014. Given this new opportunity, “Leo” received much praise and one of the positive comments was from Wayne Rooney.

The former striker of the England team used his Twitter account to praise the ‘Albiceleste’ captain, who excelled with a goal and an assist for Julián Álvarez, in the semifinal against the representative of Croatia (3-0).

“Nothing has changed”, was Rooney’s publication, which he accompanied with the emoji of a person shrugging his shoulders, which means “I don’t know how to explain it”; and a goat, which represents the GOAT (acronym for The Greatest of All Time, translated as “the best of all time”).

Curiously, the aforementioned brief phrase from Wayne served to quote a post that he himself had made more than a decade ago. “Messi is a joke. For me, the best of all”the remembered English attacker had stated on March 7, 2012, in reference to a great performance by the ‘Flea’.

On that date, Lionel achieved a historical record, when he was still managed by Pep Guardiola in Barcelona: he scored five goals in the 7-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen, in the Champions League. The Argentine became the first footballer to achieve that number of goals in a single game in the most important club tournament in Europe.

Now, Messi will seek to achieve his pending dream, which is also shared by the Argentine team and all its fans: winning the Qatar 2022 World Cup trophy. The ‘Albiceleste’ is already getting ready for the final, which will be played next Sunday, December 18, against the winner of Morocco vs. France.
