In Egypt, during a basketball game, part of the tribune collapsed, 27 people were injured

The first information evokes lives that are not in danger. But the worst may have been avoided. At least 27 people were injured Saturday when part of the grandstand collapsed on fans in a sports hall south of Cairo during a basketball game, the Egyptian health ministry said.

Part of the stands at the Hassan Mostafa Hall in the suburbs collapsed on spectators on October 6, injuring 27 people, several with fractures, health ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

The Egyptian Basketball Federation has decided to interrupt the match between the two local teams. More than 20 ambulances were sent to the scene to evacuate the injured to hospitals, the ministry added. Hassan Mostafa’s room was opened two years ago.
