John Barnes has claimed that one of Arsenal’s best players would have flopped had he joined Manchester United.

The Gunners are in fantastic form this season and are five points clear at the top of the Premier League. They have won 14 of their 17 games and lost once.

Mikel Arteta’s side missed out on the top four last season after a late collapse, but look different this time after going from strength to strength this summer.

But it’s not just Arsenal’s new players who have impressed with some older faces taking their game to the next level this season.

One of Arsenal’s most impressive players so far this season has been captain Martin Odegaard, who has racked up seven goals and five assists this season.

The 24-year-old Norwegian international midfielder was first loaned from Real Madrid in 2020-2021 before signing permanently for 2021-2022.

Former Liverpool player Barnes believes Odegaard would have struggled had he joined United rather than Arsenal.

“If he went to Manchester United, for example, I don’t think he would do very well,” Barnes tells BonusCodeBets.

Mikel Arteta implemented a style of play that suits him. The way the team is playing now suits him. The fans also support him.

“He joined Real Madrid at the age of 15, so we know he is a fantastic player, but now he has found the football that suits him, the right position and the right coach.

He is a good character and her captain. He leads the team well. Technically he is very good. He plays behind the frontman and plays passes with one and two touches.

A player who takes the ball comfortably in tight positions and intervenes with his teammates.

“He doesn’t get the ball and doesn’t dribble around ten players because he’s not that physical, but he has the right intelligence to play the way Arsenal need him.”
