Sochaux FC refused to postpone the Ligue 2 round 19 match against Caen scheduled for Saturday, the day of the Normandy club manager’s wife’s funeral, a decision that caused outrage.
Kahn demanded that the meeting be moved to Friday or postponed to Sunday or Monday due to the death on Wednesday of Armelle Moulin, the wife of Stade Malherbe coach Stéphane Moulin. He has been absent since the resumption at the end of December to stay at the bedside of his seriously ill wife. It was his deputy, Patrice Sauvage.
On social networks, many Internet users expressed their outrage. “Football is first and foremost a game, clubs are families. Unfortunately, while some people forget about it, we will continue to observe miserable behavior,” Pierre-Antoine Kapton, co-owner of the Norman club, responded, in particular, on Twitter. “Under these dramatic circumstances, I don’t see how @SMCaen can play a football game in Sochaux on Saturday. Place of the club with Stéphane Moulin. »

Faced with this situation, the Sochaux club organized a press conference this Thursday at the end of the day. FC Sochaux general manager Samuel Laurent was the first to express his sympathy for the Malherbe de Caen stadium.
“We are very saddened by what Stéphane Moulin and @SMCaen are going through. We have no animosity with this club, let it be very clear,” he said, according to his comments posted on the Franche-Comté club’s Twitter profile.
“We were offered three options to move the schedule to Friday, Sunday or Monday, but it was not possible to do it on these dates for logistical reasons,” continued Samuel Laurent. “We are ready to accommodate, but we must be offered dates that are compatible with the minimum viable organization. »
“It’s easy to make us the ‘bad guys’ when we don’t have a problem postponing the match at all,” he said. For their part, the Professional Football League (LFP) and broadcaster BeIN Sports agreed to a postponement.
Before the 19th day of Ligue 2, Sochaux is 3rd in the league table and therefore a candidate for promotion in Ligue 1. SM Kahn is in eighth place.
