Deportivo Pasto stranded in Arequipa after playing with Melgar and Binacional: they ask for a humanitarian flight to return to Colombia

The social crisis in Peru also affects sports and especially Deportivo Pasto, a Colombian soccer team that arrived in Arequipa to be able to play the Red and Black Afternoon on Sunday, January 15, and to this day is still in the White City stranded by the closure of the airport.

As is known, Arequipa is one of the places where the protest marches have become more radical and this has forced the authorities to close the airport, in addition to the fact that the land routes are also blocked by the protesters.

That is why Deportivo Pasto has not been able to leave Arequipa to return to their country and they are asking the authorities to schedule a humanitarian flight so that they can travel to Colombia since they have been in the White City since Saturday the 14th.

On social networks, the player Camilo Ayala calls for the authorities to reach an agreement. “That they show solidarity with the situation of Deportivo Pasto so that with a humanitarian flight to be able to return to the country,” he assures.

As the journalist from the portal “Tina Volcánica” Wilfredo Dueñas tells us from Arequipa, the Colombian team is still in Arequipa. “There is the entire squad of players, the technical command and part of the administrative staff. They are asking both States to be able to enable the humanitarian flight ”, he comments to us.

Deportivo Pasto has managed to have a place to train and does so at the Club de Contadores, while they are staying at the Hoten Hanna in Vallecito.

“They have treated us well, but it is a matter of ours that we can return to our country. Our family needs us, ”adds Camilo Ayala in his video in the video published by journalist Rudy Estremadoyro. “We want to return to our country and we want to be with our families. Return to be able to continue with the preparation of our team. We are asking for a humanitarian flight”, adds a member of the coaching staff.

Last Sunday they played against Melgar with a 1-0 victory and on Thursday they drew 2-2 with Binacional, in a friendly also played in Arequipa as part of their Volcanic Tour. After that, they had to return to their country, but the closure of communication channels has prevented them from doing so.

“Our delegation has not been able to travel to Colombian territory due to the social order demonstrations that the Peruvian people are going through,” they published yesterday on their social networks.

From Colombia, the Minister of Sport Guillermo Reyes already knows about the situation: “My commitment to talk with the Council of Ministers with the Commander of the Air Force to be able to schedule a humanitarian flight to be able to bring the entire team,” he commented for the Pasto’s representative in the Chamber (part of Congress) Juan Daniel Peñuela.

The situation is expected to improve in the next few hours or days so that the Deportivo Pasto squad can travel to their country where they already have to play the local league on Monday.
