Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been warned that Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo will “cause trouble everywhere” if he doesn’t change his mindset.

The attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with January’s move to both sides of north London, with Arsenal holding talks over a potential deal earlier this month.

Tottenham Hotspur are also happy with his services at Gazzetta dello Sport, reporting that they are still in the running to sign the player, despite signing a deal with Horace Danjuma this week. Antonio Conte is regarded as a great admirer of the 23-year-old.

Bournemouth have also emerged as a shock option for the Italy international, offering €30 million plus extras to take him to the Premier League, with Milan also in talks.

Zaniolo was booed by Roma fans at the Stadio Olimpico during a Coppa Italia match against Genoa last week. Jose Mourinho then dropped him from the squad for the weekend’s win against Spezia, later confirming that he had asked to leave the club this month.

Serie A legend Zbigniew Boniek, now Vice-President of UEFA, is now targeting the player and “the people around him”.

“Zaniolo is young and has great potential, but the problem is the people around him, who tell him what to do and make the wrong decisions,” the former Polish striker told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“This is the biggest problem for me and I feel sorry for him. Nicolò has great qualities and he proved it after the double knee injury.

“But while you can heal from a muscle, knee, or foot injury, things get more complicated when the problem is in the head.”

With Zaniolo’s club looking bleak, Boniek has urged Roma to cut ties unless there is a significant change in his attitude.

“If he has decided not to play for Roma, it is better if he is not involved.

“The problem remains the same: if he doesn’t change his attitude, he will cause problems for every club,” he said.

“The most important thing is that the situation does not affect the Roma, who will be fine in 2023.”
