“There will be a show”: football volleyball, very popular among Brazilians, comes to Wissous

Directed from Brazil, football volleyball arrives with fanfare in Wissous (Essonne) this weekend for the French Championship 2023. A fusion of football and beach volleyball, this discipline originated in 1965: the game started out as a simple pastime for Brazilian football players looking to practice during the summer on the beach.

With the exception of the hands, all parts of the body are allowed to hit the ball without falling to the ground, within one touch per person and a maximum of three exchanges between teammates. Simple rules that promise acrobatic confrontations. “There will be a show,” promises Mikael Tipwo, president of Paris Foot Volley and organizer of the event.

Former Bleu Florent Sinama-Pongolle game

Among the 16 teams participating in the tournament, two European champions will take to the field this Saturday, as well as Florent Sinama-Pongol, a former player of the French national football team. “Despite the fact that the French players are known abroad for their very high level, this sport is still unknown here, with the exception of Corsica,” emphasizes Mikael Tipvo, who actively covers this “thriving sport”, in which Brazilian stars Romario, Ronaldinho and Neymar contributed to the popularization.

“On Sunday, in addition to the second division matches, the field will be reserved for the initiation of foot volleyball, for both young and old,” said the manager.

Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 to 16:00 and Sunday, June 4, from 10:00 to 14:00, at Rue Guillaume Bigourdan 52, in Wissou (Essonne). FREE ENTRY.
