With an electrifying flurry at the start of the second half, in which they scored three goals in the first six minutes, Colombia thrashed Slovakia 5-1 on Wednesday and qualified for the quarterfinals of the U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
At the Bicentenario stadium, in the city of San Juan (west), the coffee team went from less to more in the first half, in which it took them a while to adjust to the Slovak proposal, although after half an hour they began to arrive with danger.
The European resistance collapsed at the beginning of the second half, in which Colombia opened the account after an error at the start that Oscar Cortés (47) took advantage of and immediately increased through Yaser Asprilla (49) and a brace from Tomás Angel (51 and 62).
The son of former international coffee striker Juan Pablo Ángel scored the third with a left-footed shot after a great individual play and assist from Johan Torres and the fourth goal with a definition entering diagonally from left to right.
Timotej Jambor (81) scored the Slovakian goal of honor and in injury time Cortés (90+3) signed his brace for the final 5-1 victory for Colombia, who in the quarterfinals will play against the winner of this afternoon’s match between England and Italy.
