After the storm of nature with rain and electric shocks, the fury of Peruvian surfing arrived. For the first time in history, two Peruvians reached the grand final of the ISA World Cup and they won Lucca Messinas, they achieved second and third place in the event, which also allowed Peru to be the team world champion.
La Bocana beach in El Salvador witnessed the talent and effort of the nationals. Lucca reached the final by playing all seven rounds of the main event, while Miguel had to play a repechage to reach the final.
In the final heat, Mexican Alan Cleland was totally inspired and in his first two waves he achieved scores of 8.50 and 9.73, practically securing the title from the start.
But the Peruvians did not stop fighting in search of the best place on the podium and the best prize went to Lucca Messinas with a comeback at the end of the heat to climb to second place, snatching it from Miguel Tudela himself.
With second and third place in the men’s division, Peru managed to displace France, which had third and fourth place in the women’s final, and thus the world team title went to the national delegation after a close closing.
France arrived as the leader and in the same conditions as Peru, with two surfers in the women’s final and one in the repechage, who was eliminated in round 11.
The men’s final was defined first and Messinas and Tudela added the points to overcome France, which now depended on what their girls did to regain first place. However, in the women’s final, the French were third and fourth. The Brazilian Tati Weston Webb collaborated with Peru, since at the end she came back to win the title and relieve the Europeans.

Great result for Peru, which in El Salvador confirmed its complete team for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, with Lucca Messinas, Miguel Tudela, Daniella Rosas and Sol Aguirre, and took team gold thanks to the sum of individual results, in which also contributed Alonso Correa and Arena Rodríguez.
Thus, Peru repeats the success it achieved in 2010, 2014 and 2016 as team champions, while Lucca Messinas equaled the second place it had achieved in 2016 at the individual level.
