Morocco eliminated Spain in the recent Qatar 2022 World Cup in the quarterfinals, with an outstanding performance by its goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, better known as ‘Bono’. The Moroccan goalkeeper who defends the colors of Seville, in the World Cup, saved two penalties against Spain, which has earned him all the praise and an MVP award, the recognition given to the most outstanding athlete in a match.
Months after that event, Yassine Bounou spoke about the key to that event and her response has surprised many. “I had a talk with the Spanish goalkeeper before the World Cup shootout. He had in hand a list with our players and where they were going to kick. He told me: ‘I’m going to leave the paper behind the arch. Do not touch it’. I told him: ‘don’t worry. I’m not going to touch it. But hide it well. Heh. When Sabiri came to kick, I told her to change his shot. Let him kick the other way. He agreed and scored his penalty”, commented the Moroccan goalkeeper.
