Several actions against racism were carried out this Saturday in the friendly between Brazil and Guinea in Barcelona, after the repeated acts of discrimination suffered by the Brazilian winger Vinicius Júnior in Spain.
The stickers of the protocol of the match and of the Cornellà-El Prat stadium, of the Espanyol club, were installed in black and white and there was a minute of silence before the initial whistle, during which the footballers of both teams sat or knelt on the field.
The five-time champions also play the first half with a black jersey, in an unprecedented action in their 109-year history.
For the complementary part, they will wear the traditional yellow shirt with a patch against racism, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
In the stands, some Brazilian fans carried signs against racial discrimination: “Enough of racism”, “We love you, Vini Jr.”
Vinicius Jr, Real Madrid winger, wears the ’10’ shirt for the first time, immortalized by the late star Pelé and habitually used by Neymar, who is out due to injury.
“Represent 10 as you know. Honor the mantle of our eternal King Pelé. With racism there is no game! Your fight is our fight”, wrote the CBF on its official Twitter account.
Vinicius has been the object of racist insults on several occasions in matches with his team this season, the last one, on May 21 in a league match against Valencia.
FIFA announced Thursday that it will create a working group against racism in which the Brazilian player will have a “prominent role.”
