Neymar’s mansion in Rio intervened: father arrested and million-dollar fine

A “great work” in the mansion of the Brazilian star Neymar in Rio de Janeiro was interrupted this Thursday for “environmental violations”, which can lead to a fine of more than one million dollars, local authorities reported.

This is a work that was being carried out “without environmental authorization” on the property of the ’10’ of Paris Saint Germain and the Brazilian team in the luxurious Aero Rural condominium, in Mangaratiba, said in a statement the mayor’s office of that city, located about 130 km from Rio.

Authorities, alerted by complaints based on social media posts, discovered “various environmental violations,” including diversion of a watercourse, unauthorized extraction of water from a river, and extraction of water for an artificial lake.

They also found unauthorized excavation and movement of earth, stones and rocks, and use of beach sand without an environmental permit, according to the statement.

“The next step will be to assess the irregularities found and issue a fine that, according to estimates and in view of the environmental damage caused, will not be less than five million reais (around one million dollars at current exchange rates)” said the mayor’s office.

The soccer player’s father, Neymar da Silva Santos, was at the scene when the authorities arrived to carry out the “monitoring operation”, led by the Mangaratiba Municipal Secretary of the Environment in conjunction with the environmental military police and the civil police.

In a video released by the Mangaratiba mayor’s office, the man is seen questioning the orders of the officials.

According to the statement, Neymar Sr. “disrespected” the municipal secretary of the Environment, Shayenne Barreto, who was present at the site.

Barreto then ordered his arrest, although he later lifted the measure “considering the principle of reasonableness” and at a request from Neymar’s father’s advisers.

‘Ney’ bought that mansion in 2016. According to local media, the property is located on a 10,000 m2 plot and includes a heliport, courts, spa, sauna, massage room, gym and areas for food and drink.

The 31-year-old is recovering from an operation on his right ankle that he underwent in Doha in March. The ’10 ′ has not played since February and his continuity at PSG is in doubt.
