Rugby: Biarritz player held accountable for violence against his partner

Biarritz Olympique would be spared this new case! Zakaria El Fakir, who plays in ProD2 with the Basque club, is being prosecuted on charges of “ordinary violence” against a partner and will appear in a Bayonne court on December 14, the Bayonne prosecutor’s office said on Friday. The 26-year-old has been playing as a pillar in BO since 2021. He is suspected of “verbal and physical” abuse, points out the criminal prosecution committed against his partner and extending from January 2016 to July 2023.

The latter, who reported the abuse for the first time in 2021 and then a second time on July 11, was given ten days of psychological TIT (complete disability). While in police custody, which ended Friday morning, the player contested all charges. The prosecution requested that Zakaria el-Fakir be placed under judicial control pending his trial.

In early July, Biarritz Olympique formalized the recruitment of Mohamed Hauas, a 29-year-old player out of 16 selected for the French national team, who was convicted in late May of domestic violence.

The Basque club has called for a pardon to justify the French international’s arrival, saying it understands fans’ “confusion” after receiving multiple messages of disapproval.
