Press releases and resignations are multiplying among the actors and actresses of Spanish football. The latest message was posted by La Roja men’s team coach Luis de la Fuente on Saturday on X (formerly Twitter). “I want to express my absolute disgust at any act of gender violence. When it comes to situations like this, there is no room for warmth,” de la Fuente said. However, the Spanish coach applauded the performance of Luis Rubiales at an extraordinary meeting of the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) this Friday, when the latter said he would not resign. Along with Jorge Vilda, coach of the women’s team (most of whose staff resigned this Saturday), we saw de la Fuente agree to defend the RFEF president.
Since then, Rubiales has been temporarily released from his duties by the FIA and the coach has changed his mind: “I deeply condemn the events that have taken place and, in particular, that they have diverted attention from what is really important. an unprecedented feat achieved by Spanish women’s football, of which we should all be very proud.”
Xavi, the coach of FC Barcelona, also expressed his disagreement with Rubiales’ move at a press conference this Saturday, saying to himself: “It’s sad that we’re not talking about winning the World Cup, a historic event.” for our sport, and that we are talking about this intolerant behaviour.”
