Gareca on Cueva’s missed penalty in Russia 2018: “Farfán was in charge of kicking”

The penalty of the Peruvian team against Denmark that could change history in Russia 2018 was the responsibility of Jefferson Farfán, not Christian Cueva, as it ended up happening, revealed in a recent interview the coach of the Bicolor in that World Cup, Ricardo Gareca.

In dialogue with ESPN, the Argentine coach responded on various topics and commented on the national participation in the event, stopping at the definition from the twelve steps that marked the role of the ‘everyone’s team’ in their last World Cup.

“Has it ever happened to you to put a figure for a minute?” Asked Miguel Simón, one of the panelists of the program who interviewed him. And the ‘Tiger’ expanded until he remembered the famous maximum penalty.

“In the World Cup I started with Farfán. They brought it to Paolo from anti-doping control, and Paolo was the captain throughout the Qualifiers, however, Farfán started against Denmark and Paolo was on the bench. I supported a team that had been playing, Paolo was not there continuously, but Paolo was a figure, ”he began by saying.

“Paolo, in the next match, he played for France. We lost 1-0 with Denmark and we had a penalty in the first half that Jefferson was practically in charge of kicking the penalty. If he scored the goal and we went through, it was very difficult, scoring a goal in a World Cup, for the other game to come out ”, added Gareca, who is free after a discreet return to Vélez.
