The Peruvian team fell 1-0 on Tuesday night against Brazil on the second date of the 2026 Qualifiers. A defeat that hurts the national fans since an orderly approach was made to the Canarinha, but Marquinhos’ goal in the minute 89 he threw all his effort into the trash.
The goal came with a header from Marquinhos, after a corner taken by Neymar. The center went towards the near post defended by Raúl Ruidíaz, a 1.70 meter tall player, while Paolo Guerrero was waiting in the heart of the area for a second clearance.
However, Marquinhos was ahead of everyone and with a header at the near post he deflected the center and placed the ball at Pedro Gallese’s far post. The Brazilian defender escaped Luis Abram’s marking to score.
According to Juan Reynoso, the decision to send Ruidíaz to guard the first post was his, since he considered that Paolo was more useful in the center, since many centers reached that point in the national area.
????️ Juan Reynoso: “We had thought that Raúl (Ruidíaz) would go to the near post, as he does at his club, and Paolo would go to the penalty spot because they were doing damage there. The responsibility lies with the speaker.”#TheHouseOfTheSelection ????????#ClassificationsxMDeports ???? pic.twitter.com/OgybCCnI0o
