PSG-Dortmund: “I feel a little freer”, admits Achraf Hakimi

This is Achraf Hakimi’s version of Borussia Dortmund, which tormented his former partners in Tuesday night’s 2-0 Champions League opener. Scorer of the second goal, the Moroccan right-back stood out at the Parc des Princes, confirming his good intentions at the start of the season. He told reporters that he feels very comfortable under the command of Luis Enrique.

Last year there was Messi, Neymar, now they left this summer and the team has changed a lot. What are the main differences compared to last season?

AHRAF HAKIMI. The truth is that we have great players and we have improved in every position. We have an idea, a mood – to play together. This year “El Mister” (coach Luis Enrique) has done a great job of keeping us all together. We play with eleven, attack with eleven, defend with eleven. I think this is again the strength of Paris Saint-Germain. And this can be seen on the ground.

Do you personally feel better with this new coach?

I think so, everyone sees that the situation has improved. I feel a little more free and used. I’m getting back to a great level.

“I feel more confident”

We often saw you in the game and asked for the ball in the center. How do you feel about this new role?

I already talked about this: the coach played a game in which I feel freer. I can attack and stay inside the game a little longer, projecting myself into the second line (midfield). I feel more confident and hope it will continue to be that way.

How do you rate your understanding with Ousmane Dembele, your partner on the right line?

It goes well. There is a good connection between us. We are close to each other. We see what each other needs and I hope we will do great things together.

Tell us about your goal…

It happened very quickly. Vitinha passes me the ball. We make a great combination, and then a defender comes quickly, I make a hook and throw out with my right foot.

Was it important for you to start with a victory in this difficult group?

Indeed, the group is not easy. This victory gives us great confidence. These three points are very important. I hope we can continue like this and go to Newcastle and have a great game and bring home the three points.
