“Everything is going in the right direction”… Julian Alaphilippe wants to be hopeful after his big fall on April 24th.

He left the Liège-Bastogne-Liège road, accompanied by his guardians, and was in serious condition. Nearly two weeks after his spectacular fall, Julian Alaphilippe, who suffered from two broken ribs, a fractured scapula and a hemopneumothorax, took to his social media on Saturday to give the first update on his fitness.

“I’m breathing much better and everything is going in the right direction,” the two-time reigning world champion from France assured on Twitter and Instagram, adding: “My recovery is going well and the pain is less severe. »

However, the future of the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl team rider remains unknown and a possible return date to the bike: “The next exams will decide the rest of my season. Already motivated for the future and looking forward to seeing you again.”

Soon “bad memory”

Inspired by the support his fans have shown over the past few days, the rainbow jersey wearer wanted to send them a message of gratitude: “I hope that soon this big fall will only be a ‘bad memory.’ I wanted to thank you for your many messages of support, which have really touched me over the last 10 days, and obviously everyone involved. »

“Right now I’m making the most of my little family,” explained Julian Alaphilippe. The countdown is now on to the Tour de France, his next big goal of the season, which begins on Friday, July 1. Second in the Tour de la Provence and stage winner of the Tour du Pays Basque, Alaphilippe will be aiming for stage victories in the Grande Boucle if his physical condition allows it this summer.
