Apart from Valdés, América pointed out that goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón also has a muscle ailment that puts him in doubt about playing against the Pumas, one of the Águilas’ rivals in the capital of Mexico, along with Cruz Azul.

Valdés, 29, is his team’s leading scorer with five goals, in addition to two assists. His loss will leave Brazilian coach André Jardine without his offensive engine. The former Chilean Audax Italiano player has a streak of three games in a row with a goal, in which he has scored four times.

While Malagón has been the team’s starting goalkeeper and even the level with the Águilas catapulted him to join the roster of the Mexican team in the Gold Cup and the FIFA date this month. The duel against the Pumas will correspond to the tenth day of the Apertura 2023 tournament of the local league, in which América is in second position.

With only eight games remaining in the regular phase, Jardine is confident that the time off while Valdés and Malagón are out will have them ready for the final phase, in which his team will seek the fourteenth title in its history, the first since 2018 .
