PSG: Kylian Mbappe, the sixth most popular athlete in the world on the Internet

This is a ranking that shows a little more about the level chosen by Kylian Mbappe. According to a study conducted by OLBD, a public sports betting platform based in the UK, the Parisian player ranks very highly among the most searched athletes from around the world on Google. The study covers the period from September 2022 to August 2023.

The first place in this ranking is occupied by the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo with 199.4 million searches per year. Besides CR7’s global fame, the 38-year-old’s signing at the end of 2022 for Al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia and his salary of almost 17 million euros per month has generated a lot of research around him.

Behind Ronaldo are two famous names at PSG. Neymar (140.9 million searches) and Lionel Messi (104.4). The first was an injury during the 2022 World Cup, then his departure from PSG, and the second, the World Cup title and signing with Miami, also attracted global interest.

This puts Kylian Mbappe in sixth place with 63.7 million searches around his name. He is also ahead of basketball player LeBron James and Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketer considered the best player in his sport. This ranking is explained only by India’s demographic weight.

Kylian Mbappe’s year has been rich in world events, notably his disappointingly insufficient hat-trick in the World Cup final against Argentina and then his exclusion from the Paris group during pre-season, reigniting the transfer buzz this summer.

However, we note that, country by country, the most sought-after athlete in France was not the Blues captain, but Neymar, his former teammate under the PSG shirt.
