Oblitas supports Reynoso: “He is the coach of the national team”

The general director of Football of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), Juan Carlos Oblitassupported the work of the national coach Juan Reynoso despite the bad start that the Bicolor had in the Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

In a press conference, held on Wednesday in La Videna, he said that his presence before the media is to “Try to lower the tone, try to make this come to fruition and to try to get everyone to talk only about the national team, not about other issues.”

“Put aside personalisms and put ourselves behind the team, whoever it is. I think that we have to stay calm at these moments and not commit excesses in what the verb is (…) Let’s think about the national team and my presence is for that.”he added.

Asked about the situation of the national coach, he was clear in stating the following:

“The national team coach is Juan Reynoso, and all of us who work around him have to be proactive, especially for this November date, it’s that simple.”

Oblitas commented that he met with Reynoso days after the defeat against Argentina in Lima, and indicated that both he and the technical director, They are worried about the selection.

“We cannot lose that empathy that had been achieved from the selection towards the people, in no way.. Football in recent years has been one of the few institutions that has brought the Peruvian people together and I don’t want that to be lost. I have touched on all of that with Juan.
