The painful memory of Chechelev

The first national goal begins with a corner taken by Teófilo Cubillas. After the rejection of defender Maldonado, Alberto Gallardo receives the ball. This yields to Roberto Chale, who finishes and beats the local goalkeeper José Issa. The 6 minutes of the second half were played.

In a counterattack the ball is thrown towards the Peruvian field, Chumpitaz deliver the ball to Rubinos, but a lack of coordination causes the ball to enter the Peruvian goal. Own goal and Bolivia takes the lead on the scoreboard with 11 minutes left.

The annulment of the Peruvian goal

The Peruvians complain and go on top of Chechelev, led by an indignant Orlando de la Torre. Then the police enter. The referee whistles the end around 48 minutes. Everything is a scandal. Bolivians celebrate.

The Bolivians came to command the standings with 4 points, Peru it was 2 and Argentina at 0. In those years two points were awarded for a game won and one for a draw.

Sergio Chechelevwho was born in Yugoslavia In 1933, he began his career as an international referee in 1968, directing matches for the Copa Libertadores. His last official match It was March 22, 1974.
