Scott McTominay criticized Georgia’s players on Thursday evening for their performance in the 2-2 draw in Scotland, which damaged their chances of topping the group.

The Scots had already qualified for next summer’s European Championships in Germany but wanted to try to beat Spain and Group A with wins against Georgia and Norway.

While their hopes still remain, they are now confident that Georgia will win in Spain after a draw in Tbilisi.

Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring after just 15 minutes, but his effort was canceled out by McTominay early in the second half and the Manchester United midfielder continued his excellent goal-scoring performance.

Shortly afterwards, Kvaratskhelia doubled his tally, but in the second minute of stoppage time, Scotland rescued a point through Lawrence Shankland.

Georgia desperately tried to retain the three points as some of their players failed to respond, and the match became quite a heated affair, with McTominay condemning their behavior afterwards.

Speaking to Viaplay, the United man said: “Every game at this level is big and it’s clear they have some really good footballers.”

“But tonight I thought the way they behaved on the pitch was a shame, because they provoked the referee and of course us players.”

“It’s not the way it should go, but anyway, that’s football and that’s how it goes sometimes.”

“We have to keep our heads down, but that’s difficult. There are some disappointed players in the dressing room, but I feel like we can build on that if we come back twice.”

McTominay further examined the behavior of some Georgia players and continued: “It’s sad. They should do something about people who act like they’re hurt when they’re not, and things like that.

“It’s hard to say this, but running around all afternoon crying like babies is not football.” For us it was about continuing with the match and doing our best to win the match. “On the other hand, they really provoked the referee.”

Incredibly, McTominay has now scored seven goals in Euro 2024 qualifying, with only Romelu Lukaku (10) and Cristiano Ronaldo (9) scoring more.
