Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus admits goals are not my forte after failing to score again in the international match against Brazil.

Jesus failed to score in Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Argentina on Tuesday night, extending his record to nine games without a goal for his national team.

The 26-year-old has fared better at club level, scoring 11 goals in 26 Premier League games for Arsenal last season following his £45million move from Manchester City.

But despite his poor record for Brazil, which has one goal in 29 appearances since October 2019, Jesus insists his fruitless run will one day end.

“There are things that bothered me a lot in the World Cup cycle after 2018. I was younger and had a different mentality,” Jesus told reporters in Brazil.

“Today I am a more mature man, better educated, a family man.” I understand that football is my priority and I know that I have to be good to do my best, especially for Brazil.

“There are things I have no control over.” I train, I search, I try, I move, I help the team. I think goals are not my strength, but I score goals, I am there to score goals. I have achieved so much in the national team.

“If I score goals again, it will happen.” It functions. I work quietly, I am not someone who responds to criticism, I am not someone who likes to accept compliments. That was me, I won’t be that anymore.’

When Jesus was asked to explain Brazil’s loss to Argentina, he said, “I think we played well, better than them.”

“They had a chance on the dead ball. We could have defended better, unfortunately that happened.”

“We don’t want to lose games. But we have to keep our wits about us.”
