Dublin: MMA champion Conor McGregor calls for knife attack to be ‘tortured and killed’

The knife attack in Dublin on Thursday particularly shocked Ireland. And MMA star Conor McGregor yesterday doubled down on his angry tweets in an apparent crusade against the left and an Irish government that is too soft for his taste, especially on immigration. When the attack was announced in Dublin, in which five people were injured, including small children outside a school, he immediately declared that Ireland… was at war, on his X (ex-Twitter) account.

The fighter, a several-time world champion, then criticized the speech of the police, calling the rioters “far-right hooligans.” “Today in Dublin, Ireland, innocent children were mercilessly stabbed to death by a mentally ill stranger,” he begins his review.

“This is not enough”

“Our police chief said the following about the riot that followed. Drew, that’s not enough. There is a grave danger among us in Ireland that should not have existed in the first place, and no action has been taken to support the public one way or the other in the face of this frightening fact. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH,” he insists to the local police chief, whom he shouts furiously at. “Change or give way.” Ireland for the win. May God bless those who were attacked today, we pray,” writes the symbolic martial arts figure.

But the muscular Irishman didn’t stop there. He directly called for “torture and kill” the perpetrator of the attack in response to a tweet from his followers!

With more than 10 million followers, twice the population of Ireland, McGregor is more than an influential figure on the island, far more popular than many politicians. And this public figure knows how to use his aura to slam Ireland’s elected officials for the perceived weakness of their policies.

“I wonder what Daniel O’Connell would say. What would our former Irish leaders say about the situation we face today? God bless Ireland,” he jokes, showing a photo of the famous statue of Daniel O’Connell, the former mayor of Dublin who was the architect of Ireland’s liberation from British rule.

As for the attack, early investigations indicate that the man attacked several people early in the day, local police chief Liam Geraghty said at a press conference. The suspect has been arrested, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said. According to the police, we are talking about a man in his fifties who was hospitalized. Police are not looking for “anyone else”, Liam Geraghty said, stressing that investigators had ruled out any “terrorist” motive given the early elements of the investigation.
