Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on Mason Greenwood’s situation at Getafe and scouts see him scoring a stunning goal for the Spanish team on Saturday.
Greenwood was loaned out to La Liga by Manchester United in August after his conduct within the club was investigated.
The charges came after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against the striker were dropped in February following his arrest the year before.
Since joining Getafe on a season-long loan, Greenwood has remained consistent even after 18 months out, making 11 appearances for his new team.
He scored his fourth goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Almeria on Saturday, a brilliant strike from outside the penalty area.
Greenwood scored four goals and three assists for his new club and is happy at Getafe.
His long-term future remains uncertain, with AS reporting that Premier League scouts have been in attendance regularly this season to monitor his performances, including on Saturdays.
Getafe are hoping to extend Greenwood’s stay at the club for at least a year, but could face competition.
There was no interest from Premier League clubs in Greenwood’s services during the summer transfer window, but it was reported that at least two Championship sides held preliminary discussions before deciding not to express their interest further. Clubs from Italy and Turkey are also linked with a move.
Greenwood’s weekend goal was described by the Spanish media as a goal of the season.
His manager Jose Bordalas said: “We have been patiently working on the timing with Mason since his arrival. You all know he hasn’t played in two years.
“There was a very large shortage and it will be corrected with the help of everyone.” The loan belongs to everyone.
“It was a beautiful goal, we know what quality he has.” He’s not at his best yet. I am very satisfied because it is phenomenally integrated. I congratulate his teammates who helped him a lot.”
