Liga vs Independiente: first leg

Independiente del Valle and Liga de Quito drew goalless this Sunday in the first leg of the 2023 Ecuadorian soccer final.

Goalkeepers Alexander Domínguez and Moisés Ramírez were respective figures of the League and Independiente in the match played at the Banco Guayaquil Stadium, on the outskirts of Quito, where Independiente is home.

Domínguez stretched in stoppage time to take a free kick from Independiente’s young promise Kendry Páez, who at 16 years old has already scored with the senior team and was already bought by English club Chelsea.

For his part, Ramírez showed off good reflexes to reject a powerful header from Sebastián González, also in the final stretch of the game.

Independiente del Valle is the current champion of the Recopa Sudamericana and reached the final of the domestic tournament for having been the best team in the first stage of the tournament, played in the first half of the year.

Liga, for its part, is the brand new champion of the Copa Sudamericana and disputes the definition of Ecuadorian soccer for being the best team in the second stage of the tournament.

Both have guaranteed places in the group stage of the 2024 Copa Libertadores.
