League 1 Betsson: know the Regulations and how the Peruvian tournament will be played in 2024

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) announced the Regulations of the League 1 Betsson 2024, which is scheduled to start on the last weekend of January next year.

The future Peruvian professional soccer tournament will maintain the same parameters of the 2023 edition, which means that it will be divided into three phases: Liga 1 Apertura, Liga 1 Clausura and Liga 1 Play Offs (Liga1 Play-Offs Semifinal and Liga1 Play-Offs Final).

General considerations

As established by the Regulations, the Apertura and Clausura tournaments will have their own position table, which will generate a cumulative standings which will determine the teams that qualify for the 2025 Conmebol tournaments and those that are relegated. This accumulated table will also define the clubs that enter the Play Offs.

The Regulation also establishes that, in the event that the Bicentennial Cup, tournament in which teams from League 1 and League 2 would participate, this competition It will be held separately and will be different from League 1 2024.

The winner of the Apertura Tournament will qualify for the Play Offs, as long as they are among the top seven in the accumulated standings, after finishing the first two stages (Apertura and Clausura).

In the event that this team does not manage to place itself within those positions, it will lose the right to qualify for the final stage of the championship.

Who plays the Play Offs?

The Play Offs for the national title will be played by the clubs that win the Apertura and Clausura. If the same team wins both tournaments, He will automatically be proclaimed national champion.

If the semi-finals are presented, the winners of the Apertura and Clausura, as well as the casts that end in the first and second location of the cumulative table. In this instance, round-trip matches will be played to meet the finalists.

Who accesses Conmebol tournaments?

The team that is the national champion, as well as the runner-up, will qualify for the Copa Libertadores 2025 like Peru 1 and 2, respectively. Third place will be Peru 3 and fourth, Peru 4.

Meanwhile, the fifth, sixth and seventh places in League 1 will go to the 2025 Copa Sudamericana, as well as the team that could become champion of the 2024 Bicentenario Cup. Only if the champion team reaches another place, their place will be occupied by the team that finishes in eighth place in the accumulated table.

And the descents?

The last three clubs in the accumulated table will lose their category and will be relegated to League 2. If during the development of League 1, a team is sanctioned with relegation, exclusion or disaffiliation, This will occupy the last place in the accumulated table.
