Budget, tickets and projects will be completed soon: Tony Estanguet is confident that 219 days before the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris

With 219 days until the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, Tony Estanguet, president of the organizing committee (Cojo), this Wednesday compiled his ninth and final year-end report. “We’re about to move into a year of celebration, a year of sport,” enthuses the three-time Olympic canoeing champion. We are looking forward to it, we have been working in this organization for 9 years. ” Just over 8 months before the event, the head of the Olympic Games emphasizes that “85% of projects will be completed by December 31st” and that Kodjoe “has a guarantee that all projects will be delivered before the Olympic Games.”

“There is no longer any concern,” insists Tony Estanguette, although some concerns remained for some time about some of the facilities, notably the Grand Palais (fencing, taekwondo), which is currently under renovation. Regarding the budget, the President recalled that “100% of the organization of the Olympic Games is financed with private money” (however, in 2022 the state and communities re-invested an additional 71 million euros, and not only for the Paralympic Games). ). 36 new partners have joined the Olympic adventure, bringing the number of more or less important sponsors to 58.

“There are still opportunities” to purchase tickets

“We generated 1.2 billion euros in revenue for our partners,” emphasizes Tony Estanguette. To balance its budget (and in particular to compensate for the 196 million euros in additional costs associated with inflation), Paris 2024 increased its sponsorship package by 127 million, bringing it to 1.2 billion euros.

The Olympics boss also returned to an “unprecedented passion” for ticket sales. 7.6 million tickets have been sold for the Olympic Games. “There are still opportunities,” promises Estanguet. However, success has been less clear in Paralympic ticket sales, with 2.8 million tickets available and 830,000 sold two months after launch.

Another delicate point is security. “We have covered 70% of our security needs,” emphasizes the president of Cojo, who is responsible for security inside the facilities. “The latest wave of tenders was issued to cover the 30% of lots that had not yet been awarded,” continues Tony Estangue. “We are maintaining our level of ambition,” insists Tony Estanguet, recalling the main events of Paris 2024: the opening ceremony on the Seine, “which is not in doubt,” the open Games (in particular, through a marathon for everyone, whose bibs will all be allocated before January 31, 2024 and a volunteer program that received 313,000 applications), “a spectacular and purposeful Games.”
