Liverpool vs Arsenal meet at Anfield in a pre-Christmas cracker (Image: Getty)

Danny Murphy has confidently predicted that Arsenal will fail to end the madness at Anfield when the two Premier League leaders meet on Saturday.

Liverpool’s title chase is largely based on the strength of their home form. Last weekend’s stalemate against Manchester United was the first time this season that they have failed to win at Anfield.

A much-changed Reds line-up galloped to a 5-1 win over West Ham last night as Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Arsenal, meanwhile, took advantage of a rare misstep at Liverpool to beat Brighton and return to the top of the table. They can underline their title credentials by winning at Anfield for the first time since 2012.

The Gunners blew a 2-0 lead in the corresponding match last season and Murphy fears their opponents will enjoy watching Arsenal play them rather than adopting the ultra-cautious tactics United used to frustrate Liverpool.

He told Vibe with Five: “I think it’s a bigger surprise if Arsenal win there than if Liverpool beat Arsenal, especially given their record there.”

“Last year they took a 2-0 lead, threw it away and should have lost.

“I don’t think you can write them off completely if one of them loses. I think it’s a bigger task for Liverpool to actually get a message across after the United game.

“I think if you look at the confidence of Liverpool and Arsenal you can see what they are doing and they have only lost two.

“But they came close and gave Villa their best game. For Liverpool it is very important and I don’t see them losing, they won’t lose.”

“Arsenal will not remain silent.” Who will stop Salah? Zinchenko is a great footballer, but defensively he is not as good as Tomiyasu.

“Arsenal can try it both ways and I see goals, but when teams come to Anfield and try, Liverpool finish top so they haven’t lost there this season.”
