Lima is celebrating and not only the Creole song dresses up. Peruvian sports also stand up to celebrate for the city. Yesterday it was announced that the Peruvian Government signed the letter of support for the capital to host the 2027 Pan American Games, so the Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) already has all the necessary documentation to present the candidacy to Panam Sports.
At the official ceremony for the 489 years of the founding of Lima, the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, made the expected announcement. “We have committed to guarantee the financing of all related costs. “This is how we demonstrate that Peru is in a position to organize world events,” said the president in her speech at the Municipal Palace.
Thus, the Peruvian Government joins the voice of #SomosLima2027 promoted by the COP and which has already been echoed in the voices of Peruvian athletes such as Kimberly García, Sofía Mulanovich, César Rodríguez and Eduardo Romay.

How it was achieved
“Now the ball is in my court. I have to put together the candidacy brochure, which is to put together the letters, and from that send it to Panam Sports,” Renzo Manyari, president of the COP, tells us.
“The letter process took a week. The message has penetrated very well in PCM, in the Presidency of the Republic, in the Ministry of Education. They have accepted and embraced the message for which we are very grateful,” Renzo tells us.
According to the COP, the government has a marked sports agenda and that was the key to signing the letter of support and this is exemplified by the fact that about four months ago Dina Boluarte signed the letter for what will be the Bolivarian Games of Lima and Ayacucho 2025 In addition, the budget for the Bolivarians Ayacucho 2024 was secured and the budget for the federations for this year has almost doubled.
Only on January 3, Panam Sports announced that Barranquilla was losing its headquarters. Fifteen days later, the Peruvian capital already has the candidacy prepared, supported by the infrastructure of Lima 2019, the experience of organizing those Games and the resources committed by the Government.

The investment
It is estimated that at least between 300 and 350 million dollars are needed plus the investment in the works that are believed to be necessary but that have not yet been decided. In addition, the Municipality of Lima, which signed its letter of support last week, must complete road projects.
Thus, the COP found a quick response from the Government. In just a week he had the letter of support. The relationships that were born with the organization of the Bolivarians 2025 Lima-Ayacucho remain latent for the benefit of sport.

But Lima does not walk alone. Asunción, Paraguay, has also had this intention for some time and it was expected that some city in Mexico (Guadalajara or Monterrey) would raise its hand.
There is still no date for the final vote, but Lima is already taking steps to bring back the Pan American Games.
