The night Flores was a better scorer than Valera and Dorregaray, and why the U improved in the second half | CHRONICLE

This beginning of the year is different no matter how you look at it: in the club’s 100 years, Noche Crema was perfect to sing “the champion comes out.” For this reason, the fans applaud and applaud their champions: Ureña, Polo, Flores, Corzo, Valera, Riveros and Calcaterra break the applause meter. There is also affection from the stands for the two reinforcements who were most talked about: Jairo Concha and Christofer Gonzales, for their recent pasts in Alianza Lima and Sporting Cristal. The fan, with a gesture of unconditional love for his colors, makes them feel protected, at home. And they, who have had the cream color attached since they were children, are grateful.

It was a night of cream party. Universitario presented its champions. Because ‘Las Leonas’ showed the Women’s League title won after beating Alianza Lima, the classic rival, as well as the first team.

There was also time, space and palms for the heroes of ’72: Chumpitaz, Percy Rojas, ‘Cachito’ Ramirez and Percy Rojas. Or for ‘Puma’ Carranza, merengue flagship. Or champions like Esidio, Galván, among others. And while they are applauded, in the stands the parents tell their children about each other’s exploits. That’s the ‘U’.

Flores and Polo, the same as always

In the two previous friendlies he had given signs, but last night against Coquimbo Kingdom it was very clear: Fabián Bustos will not touch the 3-5-2 inherited by Jorge Fossati. On the night of his presentation, the Argentine sent Britos to the field; Corzo, Riveros, Di Benedetto; Polo, Pérez Guedes, Ureña, Calcaterra, Cabanillas; Flores and Valera.

The only reinforcement this year who started from the beginning was Uruguayan goalkeeper Britos. Afterwards, the others waited on the substitute bench for their opportunity to have their first minutes.

After a first half without emotions, the entry of Jairo Concha and Yuriel Celi changed the face of the cream team. The dynamism of both was not shown by Calcaterra or Pérez Guedes. With them, the U got closer to the rival goal. Even Concha fabricated the expulsion of a player from the Chilean team.

With one more on the field, the meringues took the lead in the result: a header from Edison Flores, with the 19 on his back, after a cross from Andy Polo (#24). On 19-24 they came together to make everyone happy in the stands. However, an own goal by José Bolívar made the final score 1-1.
